Penzance based charity Counselling for Social Change (CSC) has secured £9520 to offer free counselling to people across Cornwall dealing with the impact of coronavirus.

CSC offered free drop-in sessions during the lockdown and the grant will enable the charity to provide longer term support to local people affected by the pandemic. CSC normally provides long-term, low-cost counselling on a sliding scale.

The funding from the Government’s Coronavirus Community Support Fund means people suffering from the psychological impact of Covid-19 will be able to access free counselling and help clients to deal with the impact of a changed and changing world.

Due to the pandemic, sessions will be on the phone and online. The charity also aims to evaluate whether this model works generally for people living in more remote areas of Cornwall where it is harder to access services.

Clayton Elliott, CSC’s Managing Director stated:

“Cornwall was already one of the most deprived areas of Europe before the pandemic. The impact of the lockdown has had a massive impact on our community and we are very glad to be able to offer free sessions to those who need it most.”
